Satellites

Not everything has to be about rockets

MarQuub

This project aims to develop a low-cost PocketQube satellite to explore the Martian atmosphere and analyze its soil composition. The satellite will measure atmospheric variables during descent and utilize a novel vibration system for soil analysis upon landing. It will also feature a battery system, solar panels, and a long-distance communication system to enhance autonomy and open new possibilities for affordable scientific exploration missions.

Atipaná

Atipaná is an atmospheric nanosatellite designed to sample wind currents and measure air properties (pressure, humidity, temperature) at various altitudes within a 500-meter range. Developed by students from Universidad de Antioquia and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, this project aims to understand air current dynamics, validate system design, and potentially scale the mission to characterize air quality and explore wind energy applications.

Voyager - 1

Voyager 1 is a CanSat-type picosatellite, designed and built to compete in the fifth edition of the Latin American Space Challenge (LASC). It participated in the CanSat category in 2023, it was going to be launched on a rocket with an ascent range of 1 kilometer, reaching third place in its category.

Medusa

This cansat was the payload and part of structure of Perseo rocket. It aimed to emulate the reentry of a capsule implementing a heat shield. It had part of its electronics on the bottom part. The heat shield deployed as soon as it is deployed from the rocket, however, when it reached a 300 m (985 ft) altitude a mechanical system implementing springs deployed a parachute that allowed it to land safely. It was recovered successfully.

Kaus

It was a hybrid cansat-type satellite that functions as a rover for soil characterization upon landing. It also had sensors to measure basic environmental variables (such as humidity and temperature) in addition to ultrasonic sensors that allowed it to avoid obstacles.
